Saturn in Astrology
One of the more formidable planets in Astrology, Saturn rules maturity, loss, fear, boundaries, rules, legacy, and obligation. It’s associated with Capricorn, a feminine Cardinal Earth sign. Interestingly, Saturn is associated with the patriarchy, and I think there’s something to be said about women’s role in upholding it in society.
Saturn has associations with scarcity and fear. It’s the ruler of the 10th House. It takes time for someone’s Saturnian traits to present themselves openly to others unless they’re primarily stationed within the birth chart (i.e, Aspects the Big Three, or Saturn is the Chart Ruler).
Saturn is the Lord of Time. It’s not in any way contrived.
Astrology students exploring 2.0-style literature will come across the cycle of the Saturn Return as the first “big” Astrological event in their lifetime. These occur about every 29-30 years, three times total if we’re so lucky. I’ve had the fortune to read birth charts for individuals in all three junctions of a Saturn Return. What’s clear is that alignment and wisdom deeply resonate with this transit. Recently, I had a client ask for clarification on the duration of their Saturn Return. From what I have read, heard, and myself experienced, this period extends about 2-3 years and does not culminate with the passing of the degree of a native Saturn placement.
Wherever your Saturn resides and regardless of how frequently it is in an Aspect with other planets, it’s common for this placement to feel isolated and rigid. Responsibility and morals form under Saturn’s influence, and so does reputation.
In Health Astrology, it governs bones and teeth. Consistent and routine care pays off handsomely in terms of value and durability.
