2022 Solar and Lunar Eclipse Schedule
The eclipse cycles of 2022 activates Scorpio & Taurus placements
In 2022, the lunar calendar exasperates our sense of security and structure thanks to a series of Taurus and Scorpio eclipses.
The moon represents the emotional nature of our birth chart; it’s where we look to better understand how we feel, process, and embody our emotions. Eclipses bring with them a sense of disruption, endings, beginnings, and often revolutionary change. During these phases, we’re apt to “feel our feelings” more than usual; expelling or connecting with pent-up emotions.
Eclipses represent powerful energy between the Sun and Moon, either in opposition or conjunction with one another.
What is a Lunar Eclipse?
Lunar Eclipses occur when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow during the time of a New Moon. In this phase, the Moon conjuncts the Sun. Thus, bringing the two major personal “planets” within close proximity — or within 0° to 10° of one another. Click here to learn about the meaning of each degree. During a New Moon and Lunar Eclipse, the Moon is in the same zodiac sign as the Sun.
This phase marks the start of a 28-day lunar cycle. During a New Moon cycle, the energy is ripe for manifesting. It’s during this cycle that “moon magic” largely revolves around ushering something new into our lives. Whether it be a new romance, new career, new routine, or something else. Conjuring up an untapped potential can be largely rewarding.
What is a Solar Eclipse?
Solar Eclipses occur during the time of a Full Moon. In this phase, the Moon opposes the Sun bringing itself halfway around the astrological wheel — 180° apart. During a Full Moon and Solar Eclipse, the Moon is in the opposite zodiac sign as the Sun. For example, during the Taurus solar season, a Full Moon will occur in the sign of Scorpio.
This phase marks the end of a 28-day lunar cycle. During a Full Moon cycle, the energy amplifies the need to release. It’s during this cycle that “moon magic” largely revolves around getting rid of or clearing away something (or someone).
Scorpio - Taurus Polarity
In 2022, the eclipse cycle activates the polarity between Taurus and Scorpio. Wherever these two zodiac signs fall into your natal chart marks the astrological houses that will be most activated this year. For me, Taurus rules my 6th house of daily routines, habits, and health, and Scorpio rules my 12th house of psychic connection, self-undoing, and escapism.
Taurus is an earth sign ruled by Venus, largely involved with value systems, sensory experiences, and material stability.
Scorpio is a water sign ruled by Pluto (Mars in Hellenistic), concerned with taboos, transformation, and psychology.
Where Taurus finds comfort in the luxurious expressions of the material world, Scorpio drives to dig much deeper, into the unknown parts of the psyche. Both of these signs can be highly sexual, stubborn (both fixed energy), and determined.
Anticipating the Vibes
The kickoff to the 2022 eclipse cycle begins April 30th during the Taurus season with a Full Moon in Scorpio. This could be a great time to experience kundalini yoga, breathwork, and deeply-cleansing therapies. This cycle follows up with a Scorpio Lunar Eclipse on May 16th which would be an opportune time to set intentions for the Scorpio eclipse cycle that comes back around in the Fall on October 25th. We close out the year with a “sensual” Taurus Total Lunar Eclipse on November 7th. The Scorpio solar season will be extremely activated in these energies; keep that in mind.
Considering the themes of these zodiac signs, I’d expect a lot of resistance towards change. However, it’s important that we keep in mind these cycles wash away only the things we no longer need to take with us on this life journey. It can be difficult to say goodbye to a career, friendship, relationship, or living space. But, consider what we have to gain in the next chapter.
Letting go of resistance and accepting cosmic influence can make the experience of this cycle more influential. This is not to say we should submit without intention, but to keep our mind’s eye open to potentials not yet in our line of sight. Use this cycle to weed out unsustainable behaviors, unfavorable connections, and anything that feels “stale” in life.
