2024 Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction

Jupiter and Uranus Conjunction in Taurus April 20, 2024

Perhaps the most significant Astrological event of the year took place April 20, the Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction in Taurus. Those with Fixed, Earth and Water placements at or near 21 degrees will be most engaged in this cycle.

Numerous life-altering inventions, events, projects and discoveries were made during Jupiter-Uranus Conjunctions in the past: Dolly the cloned sheep, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the Stonewall riots, and countless other events.

This cycle lasts 14 years, the previous Conjunction took place in 2011 and the next will be in 2037. Uranus has been journeying through Taurus since 2018, and we’re now in the final two years of the transit that ends in 2026. Jupiter’s transit through Taurus lasts about a year.

Innovation and exploration, but at what cost?

Uranus represents Promethean energy according to Richard Tarnas which many Astrologers support. The myth of Prometheus depicts a Titan stealing fire from the Gods for humans, liberating them from divine power. As Anne Whitaker cleverly points out though, this fire was indeed stolen and burns the hands of those who hold it.

Jupiter and Uranus Conjunct at 21 degrees of Taurus. The 21st degree is a critical degree associated with large roads and new places. Road opener energy brings opportunities for progress but historically, with little regard for consequences. This is the Shadow Side of the combination, Whitaker says: the arrogant pursuit of exploration and innovation regardless of the physical, emotional and spiritual costs.

Astrologers recognize a paradigm shift within the pattern of this cycle. Jupiter is expansive, and Uranus invites change. Together, they catalyze the future.

Echoes to events of the past

In researching this Conjunction, it struck me just how many similarities I noticed in current events and anecdotes from the past Jupiter-Uranus Conjunctions.

There’s a scandalous echo in the political sphere to the 1997 Conjunction that aligned with President Clinton’s impeachment and subsequent acquittal. Now, 27 years later, another Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction occurs, this time during an election year and one of the candidates (twice impeached) and is undergoing criminal trial.

Another reverberation is the U.S. moon landing in 1969, which occurred during a 0-degree Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction in Libra. On February 23 of this year, a U.S. tech company landed on the moon, the first lunar touchdown in nearly 50 years.

Finally, mirroring the scientific development of Dolly, an endangered species of ferrets have been cloned at a conservation in Colorado. They are the first clones of an endangered species in the United States. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service made the announcement on April 17 they have successfully bred three cloned ferrets.

Current events near exactitude

The environment is a clear concern as the earth’s climate (Taurus) becomes more destabilized (Uranus). Here in Dayton, numerous severe storms, tornadoes and even record-breaking high’s have swept the region where I live. On April 15, temperatures topped 85 and yet, some meteorologists still caution gardeners about frost.

As billionaire companies continue to report record-breaking profits, the cost of living has increased by 20% (and counting) since the pandemic. Weirdly, AI has been used recently to create folk-sounding songs describing the plight of the poor (i.e., Why Are Groceries $600?) All the while, the Supreme Court is prioritizing felony charges for gender-affirming care and abolishing protest rights, and the TikTok ban is still pending, as are further restrictions on the abortion pill.

With many Astrological events like these, we gain more insight as our view broadens. Of the 2024 Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction, I wonder what will we reflect on as significant markers of the event? As Thomas Jefferson once said, "I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past."
